I do however think that we should resist from conformity. Emerson said "Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist." I think that this is true. Everyone needs to do their own thing and not let the group make them into someone their not in order to succeed. That relates to Lasn's ideas because he is saying that corporations are running the world and making people given in to advertisements. Lasn would agree with Emerson with the need to not conform.

I do not think that I could live in the woods for a year by myself. I like being around people to much and talking with them. I would go crazy if all I had was my thoughts. I understand how it would help you know yourself a lot better but I feel like it would put me into a depression thinking that much about life. It would make me feel as if there is always something better that I could be doing but I like living in the now and going with the flow of life.

we say we shouldn't conform but is it possible with the influences that we have?
ReplyDeleteI do too agree that we should resist from conformity. If our society was made up of one person making ideas and laws of what to do and everyone following, i do not see how this could be any good. Everyone needs there own thoughts and ideas to question or agree with society.
ReplyDeleteI think people just need to accept one another for who they are, and that way none us would feel the need to conform.
ReplyDeleteHave we really conformed to the group? I would not have this blog if it was not for this class. So in that way I have conformed to the group, but yet I still show my individuality by the pitch i have on my background. I don't care what you think about it I like it and it is my call. The same goes with sites like myspace you can change it and show who you are.
